The Strategy of PEASA

While our mission defines our purpose, our strategy defines how we will achieve it in a competitive publishing landscape.

Differentiation: PEASA is not merely multidisciplinary but trans-disciplinary. Unlike journals that publish papers from different fields side-by-side, we require each submission to demonstrate genuine accessibility and relevance across disciplinary boundaries. Our "Understandability Criterion" is a binding editorial standard, not an aspiration.

Audience: We prioritize two communities: EASA members seeking a home for cross-class collaborations, and researchers worldwide addressing grand challenges — climate, health, digital transformation, social cohesion — with relevance to European values and institutions.

Quality & Discovery: All submissions undergo anonymous review by at least two reviewers from different EASA classes. We are actively pursuing inclusion in Scopus, Web of Science, and DOAJ to ensure global discoverability and academic recognition for our authors. All submissions undergo rigorous peer review. We are actively pursuing inclusion in Scopus, Web of Science, and DOAJ to ensure global discoverability. We apply double-blind peer review to enhance impartiality —  priority given our institutional character and active author-editors. For board-authored submissions, an Advisory Editor provides an independent first opinion on whether the manuscript proceeds to peer review.

Operations (Years 1–4): We have built a diverse editorial board, curate thematic special issues on topics of European significance, offer plain-language rewriting for accepted papers, and measure impact beyond citations — tracking policy references, media mentions, and cross-disciplinary downloads.

Open Access: Committed to European ideals of knowledge dissemination, PEASA follows a sustainable open-access model with equitable APC structures and waivers for researchers from lower-income countries.

The Mission of PEASA

The European Academy of Sciences & Arts announces the launching of its first scientific Journal, the Proceedings of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (PEASA) in 2022.

The mission of PEASA is to promote innovative, interdisciplinary, and transnational research that serves the advancement of Europe and world. PEASA does not seek a random collection of disciplinary papers. Rather, we curate research that addresses overarching themes of European and global significance — themes that inherently resist single-discipline solutions, such as digital transformation, climate resilience, health equity, cultural cohesion, and the ethical governance of technology. An article is suited to PEASA when its question, method, or implications explicitly bridge at least two of our seven classes and speak meaningfully to a challenge that transcends any one field.

An important criterion in assessing submissions is their comprehension across disciplinary boundaries. This criterion deliberately challenges the current trend of scientific writing on shorthand jargon condensed code.

Our editorial method treats interdisciplinarity not as an outcome of diverse submissions, but as an active editorial principle—soliciting, reviewing, and curating research that deliberately integrates scientific, cultural, ethical, and worldview-based perspectives to address Europe's most complex challenges.

PEASA does not compete with narrow disciplinary journals on citation metrics. Our competitive strength lies in high-quality review articles and interdisciplinary policy papers — genres where impact is measured not by specialized citations alone, but by influence across fields, relevance to European institutions, and contribution to societal discourse. This is our editorial niche, and we actively cultivate it.

The European Academy of Sciences and Arts is a non-governmental, European association committed to promoting scientific and societal progress. The interdisciplinarity derives from the interaction between EASA’s seven classes: Humanities, Medicine, Arts, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Law & Economics, Technical & Environmental Sciences, and World Religions.

PEASA follows our Academy’s mission to serve humanity through interdisciplinary scientific content based on human values. Hence in our logo, the seven stars symbolize the seven article categories covered by the journal, and the three seamless spears flower the devotion to Strength, Beauty, and Wisdom.

We particularly welcome submissions of interdisciplinary nature. An important criterion in assessing submissions is their understandability across disciplinary boundaries. This criterion of understandability deliberately challenges the current trend of scientific writing on shorthand jargon condensed code.	An important focus of the journal is on topics of high relevance to Europe and the European ideals. While open to submissions from across the globe and striving for the widest topical diversity, the EASA also sees PEASA Journal as an important platform for exchange among European scientists.	The PEASA Journal accepts submissions from EASA members and non-members alike. For EASA members the journal also serves as a forum to publish the transdisciplinary work arising from collaborations within the academy.
